Effects of Anisotropy in QED3 from Dyson-Schwinger equations in a box

We investigate the effect of anisotropies in the fermion velocities of 2+1 dimensional QED on the critical number N_f^c of fermions for dynamical mass generation. Our framework are the Dyson-Schwinger equations for the gauge boson and fermion propagators formulated in a finite volume. In contrast to previous Dyson-Schwinger studies we do not rely on an expansion in small anisotropies but keep the full velocity dependence of fermion equations intact. As result we find sizable variations of N_f^c away from the isotropic point in agreement with other approaches. We discuss the relevance of our findings for models of high-T_c superconductors.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, v2: minor changes, typos corrected, version accepted by PR

Le jeu comme « leurre » et le démenti

International audienceIn the cure, according to our hypothesis, the games played by children obey different unconscious logics, which reveals the importance of envisioning the reception of different types of play in the cure. We propose a Freudian-inflected " structural classification of play, " drawing upon similar attempts made by Piaget for developmental psychology, and Caillois for sociology. We will consider that certain play follows a logic of negation (Verneinung) Ŕ play that we call " trompe-l'oeil " games; or a logic of disavowal (Verleugnung) Ŕ " decoy " games; or a logic of foreclusion (Verwerfung) Ŕ " suppléance " games. This article develops the type of play associated with the mechanism of disavowal: the game as decoy. We draw upon and analyse an example from the literature Ŕ that of Arpad, the " little chanticleer " received by S. Ferenczi in 1913. The examination of this case allows us to clarify the reasons for which such games can be an obstacle to the cure, as well as to the establishment and development of the transference. We will be led to cast doubt upon the possibility of considering such play to be " therapeutic " in the sense of winnicottian playing. Following the hypothesis that such play does not favour subjective change, we will propose a comparison with " trompe-l'oeil " and " suppléance " games.

    Territorial divisions in Europe

The study of territorial divisions is expected to fall within the remit of political geography, as it implies an analysis of relations between power and territories as political constructs. However, given the multi-faceted nature of the « territorial paradigm », we should also look at other approaches to territoriality (M. Vanier, 2010). The articles compiled in this issue tackle territorial divisions from two angles, drawing comparisons between Western and Eastern European states, including..

The Notion of the “Matrix”: New Perspectives in Group Psychotherapy for Psychotic Patients

    Get PDF
International audienceFollowing on from the work of Foulkes (1964), we propose in thisarticle to take up the concept of ‘group matrix’. We set out to providenew clinical–theoretical perspectives via the notion of group as‘envelope’ elaborated by Anzieu (1975). This formulation will provideus with a canvas within which to apprehend the organizational andstructural evolution of a therapeutic group for chronic psychoticpatients. We will suggest models of the networks forming the matrixand the texture of the psychic envelope of the group. The aim is tobring out the peculiarities of the matrix in this type of group as wellas its impact on the psychic positioning of the therapist and on his/her therapeutic work within the group

    The psychotic transference in groups

International audienceWe wish to present a study of psychotic transference in groups, following on from the work of W.R. Bion and Foulkes. We put forward the hypothesis that in the early stages of such a therapeutic group, group psychotic transference oscillates between expansive movements and restrictive movements. This will be expressed by a tendency of the patients to withdraw, either exclude himself, or engage in an undifferentiated way. To illustrate our premise, we will rely on the analysis of the early stages of a psychoanalytic psychodrama session conducted in a hospital unit. The results will enable us to rethink the therapeutic stakes for this type of treatment

The paradigm of the Internet of Things (IoT) requires pervasive connectivity to billions of heterogeneous devices. In recent time, rapid growth of IoT devices in smart home environment envisioned a wide range of novel services and applications. However, due to the inherent heterogeneity, home environment is becoming complex making device management extremely difficult. This paper proposes a lightweight IoT device management framework for smart home services. The framework can be deployed at home gateways and consumer smart devices. A prototype implementation and performance evaluation results are also presented

The article is based on an analytic clinical of adolescents mobilizing in film sessions. Next, the themes of memory and recollection in their Freudian aspects are classically considered; as well as the links and distances between Freud, cinema and psychoanalysis. The rhetoric (in the sense of Yates and Arasse) is articulated with the figuration to propose a classical connection in the structuralist field (Barthes, Foucault) between speech and cinema. The author proposes a specific articulation between rhetoric, aesthetics and political engagement in the cinema. The resources of the structural analysis of the narratives lead to propose a model of the narrative formulas of the theme of the struggles. Finally a singular opening is proposed by mobilizing the expression of the eye to the camera and linking it to the concept of film analysis of the look at the camera (Vernet) to propose the design of the look by the camera. This one would be an original modality, specific of the adolescent processes, as the adolescent exposes himself to the image which “looks at him” and especially the article indicates that: This look by the camera is tied to the transfer.

Riemannian geometry applied to BCI classification

ISBN 978-3-642-15994-7, SoftcoverInternational audienceIn brain-computer interfaces based on motor imagery, covariance matrices are widely used through spatial filters computation and other signal processing methods. Covariance matrices lie in the space of Symmetric Positives-Definite (SPD) matrices and therefore, fall within the Riemannian geometry domain. Using a differential geometry framework, we propose different algorithms in order to classify covariance matrices in their native space
